beginnings & becomings
Emily Ashley-Turner is an artist living in lutruwita/Tasmania, a place of profound beauty and layered story—a landscape that has breathed life into the pulse of Hands to Land.
She is currently being mentored by two master craftsmen in the Huon Valley, Ian Clare and Zsolt Faludi—both of whom encourage Emily to find her own way with clay, while remaining a humble student of their 40+ years of lived experience in the field of ceramics.
Her work is rooted in learning the ancient language of clay and exploring what it means to fully inhabit our humanness through various creative offerings—pottery, dance, and photography—all of which call us into presence and play. This merging of elements becomes an act of communion, generating a greater sense of thriving life.
The process unfolds with intention and slowness—an intimate dialogue molded by the hands, guided by the heart, and attuned to the senses. It is a quiet exploration of what it means to be in relationship with that which we shape—and that which, in turn, shapes us.
Thank you for taking a moment to pause here on your journey.
